Making myself presentCleansing and grounding my energyAligning and opening myselfCreating the right spaceOpening myself to the encounterEach treatment is an offeringWe often talk about what the receiver can do to prepare for a treatment.
But what about us, the practitioners?
Before each encounter, each touch, each connection, I prepare myself. Not to “do something”, but to make myself available.
It is an inner hygiene, a discreet ritual, a return to the essentials.
Making myself present
Before each treatment, I take time to come back to myself.
Breathe. Settle.
Let go of what came before (a conversation, another session, my mind).
It is a gentle transition, an airlock that allows me to leave the outside world for enter the space of the treatment.
I check my inner stance:
→ Am I calm? Or agitated?
→ Am I in my head? Or connected to my body?
→ Am I expecting to “do well”? Or am I trusting?
Cleansing and grounding my energy
I often do a small energy-cleansing ritual, simple but effective: shaking out my arms, placing my hands on the Earth, or standing under a trickle of water.
Sometimes a few deep breaths are enough. I invite the excess to flow down, and my roots to anchor.
This cleansing means I do not bring my own tension or emotions into the treatment space.
Aligning and opening myself
Then comes the moment when I connect.
To something greater than me. To the intelligence of life. I often repeat this phrase to myself:
“I am not the source. I am a channel.”
I align myself. I open up.
And I invite my guides, the light, consciousness, to accompany the treatment — not in my place, but with me.
Creating the right space
The space matters. I check that the room is ready: soft light, incense if needed, Tibetan bowls, plants, oils at hand, stones available, mantras in the background.
I attune to the energy of the place, I feel whether anything needs purifying or adjusting.
Every detail (a lit candle, a well-placed cushion, tea already brewed…) is part of the preparation.
It is my way ofhonouring the other person’s coming.
Opening myself to the encounter
Finally, just before starting, I remind myself that I know nothing in advance. I make myself available to the person, to their energy, to their body, to what will be said, or left unsaid.
I let go of any wish to “succeed” or to “do well”. I choose listening, presence, accuracy.
Each treatment is an offering
Preparing a treatment is not following a fixed procedure. It is an inner stance that is cultivated, adjusted, reinvented. It is honouring the invisible, respecting life, and welcoming the mystery that presents itself through each person.
And the more I attune to this, the simpler, more fluid and more alive the treatment becomes.
The less it comes from me, the more accurate it becomes.
This inner preparation, this quality of presence, this way of “getting into a state of care”, is also what we explore in depth during the introductions I offer several times a year at the Centre Ananda.
