Our posture is much more than a simple mechanical alignment: it is a silent mirror of our habits, our emotions, our pace of life. It reveals, without judgement, everything we have accumulated… consciously or not. As a practitioner, I see every day how much the body tells even before words are found.
The body keeps the memory
Every day, we unconsciously adapt our posture to face the world. We lean forward, tense up, hunch over, hold our breath. This can be linked to stress, a sedentary lifestyle, buried emotions… or an accumulation of micro-adjustments the body has accepted without complaint, until it says stop.
A higher shoulder, a hunched back, a stiff neck, a locked pelvis: behind these signs, there is sometimes a fear, a mental load, a relationship tension, a need to protect yourself, or simply a chronic fatigue that was not listened to early enough.
Massage: a caring decoder
During a treatment, I often perceive areas of tension even before they are named. The body speaks through its resistance and its tightness, but also through its silences. Some areas ask to be touched gently, others invite going deeper. My role is not to “correct” a posture, but to listen to it, welcome it, and offer the person a space to settle and unwind.
Little by little, with breathing, release and trust, the body reorganises itself. It is not about forcing it, but about offering it a safe setting where it can, at its own pace, regain a more fluid, more natural uprightness. It is a return to the axis, towards balance.
Tension is not our enemy
Our tensions are there for a reason. They have protected us, supported us, let us keep going at times when we had to hold on. The aim is not to erase them, but to recognise their function, thank them, then invite them to release if the time has come.
Observing your posture gently means giving yourself a space of listening without judgement. It means realising that the body is an ally, a messenger, not a machine to be “straightened”.
A few ideas to reconnect with your posture:
Take a moment to observe yourself each morning, standing in front of a mirror or simply with your eyes closed: how are you holding yourself today?
Breathe deeply into the tense areas, without trying to change them straight away.
Receive a massage mindfully, setting the intention to inhabit your body more fully.
Move gently every day, reconnecting with your support, your axis, your rhythm.
Fancy a treatment to recentre yourself?
At the Centre Ananda, I offer tailor-made massages designed to help you reconnect with your body and release deep tension:
Constellation massage (on the table): an enveloping, intuitive treatment, attentive to the needs of the moment.
Prana Thai massage (on the floor): an invitation to breathe, to align and to release deeply through stretching and just the right pressure.
Each session begins with a conversation over a cup of tea and ends gently, to let you come back to yourself mindfully.
Because a calm posture is first and foremost a body that has been listened to.
